The Nvidia App is affecting the performance of some PCs and games, as tested by PC GAMER on December 18. A few players have reported stuttering issues while using the application. Due to growing concerns, a Nvidia staff member recommended a temporary fix by turning off the "Game Filters and Photo Mode" overlay.

First, they tested Black Myth: Wukong using a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and an RTX 4070 Super, a high-end gaming setup. PC Gamer played the game at 1080p on Very High settings with the overlay turned off, slightly increasing the average framerate from 59 fps to 63 fps. They also tested it at 1440p but observed no significant difference. However, when they turned the overlay on and switched the graphics to Medium, they "saw a hefty 12% frame rate drop."

They also tested the performance of Cyberpunk 2077 on a Core Ultra 9 285K and an RTX 4080 Super and found that the framerates remained stable regardless if the overlay was on or off. According to their findings, it seems the issue with the Nvidia App affects certain games and PC builds.

PC GAMER tested this issue as some players voiced their concerns on Twitter (X), using the temporary fix recommended by a staff member on Nvidia’s website forum. This can be done by turning the Game Filters and Photo Mode overlay off, but many players are still saying that their game’s performance is still unstable.

On the same Twitter (X) thread, some users recommended reverting the graphic driver back to avoid the performance issue while others are wondering what games can be affected by the application. As of now, Nvidia hasn’t released any update to fix this issue aside from turning the overlay off.

Nvidia App’s Official Launch

On February 22, 2024, the Nvidia App launched in beta, acting as the replacement for GeForce Experience. Both of these software are for PC users with Nvidia GPUs, which they can use to optimize GPU settings, record their games, and more.

After a period of beta testing, it officially launched in November 2024, effectively replacing GeForce Experience. The official release coincided with a graphics driver update in preparation for upcoming games. With this new application, users no longer need to sign in to their accounts with a brand-new overlay system.

While the new application offers improved features, Nvidia may need to take a closer look at its impact on certain games and PCs.
