Stardew Valley Friendship Guide: Maximize Your Relationships

Making friends is key to thriving in Stardew Valley's charming Pelican Town. This guide details how to boost your relationships with villagers, whether you're aiming for friendship or romance. While talking and gifting are crucial, understanding the point system is essential for maximizing your gains.

Updated January 4, 2025, to reflect the 1.6 update.

The Heart System

Heart Menu

Access your relationship status via the in-game menu's heart tab. Each villager shows their friendship level in hearts. Higher heart levels unlock special events, mail, and dialogue. However, the hearts only represent the culmination of friendship points.

Friendship Points

One heart equals 250 friendship points. Most interactions impact this score, either positively or negatively. Ignoring villagers leads to point deductions.

Boosting Friendship Gains

The "Friendship 101" book (available from the Prize Machine or the Bookseller in Year 3) grants a permanent 10% friendship point bonus.

Interaction Point Values

Daily Interaction

  • Talking: +20 points (or +10 if the villager is busy). Daily interaction prevents friendship decay (-2 points/day, or more if a bouquet was given or if you're married).
  • Bulletin Board Deliveries: +150 points with the recipient.
  • Gifting:
    • Loved Gifts: +80 points
    • Liked Gifts: +45 points
    • Neutral Gifts: +20 points
    • Disliked Gifts: -20 points
    • Hated Gifts: -40 points
    • Birthday/Winter Star Gifts: 8x or 5x the usual points respectively.

Gifting

Stardrop Tea

Stardrop Tea

Gifting Stardrop Tea yields +250 points (+750 on birthdays/Winter Star). It's obtainable via the Prize Machine, Golden Fishing Chests, the Helper's Bundle, or from the raccoon.

Movie Theater

Movie Theater

Invite villagers to the movies using a Movie Ticket. Movie and snack choices affect friendship points.

Conversations and Dialogue

Dialogue choices can yield +10 to +50 points (or cause decreases). Heart Events offer similar opportunities for significant point gains or losses.

Festivals and Events

  • Flower Dance: Dancing with a villager (4 hearts or more) grants +250 points.
  • Luau: Soup contributions impact friendship with all villagers.
  • Community Center (Bulletin Board Bundles): Completing these bundles awards +500 points with each non-datable villager.

By carefully managing interactions, gifts, and event choices, you can forge strong bonds and unlock the full potential of your Stardew Valley social life.
