Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw
Leaked information suggests Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card will pack a significant punch. Sources indicate it will boast a massive 32GB of GDDR7 video memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. However, this performance comes at a cost: a substantial 575W power draw.
The RTX 5090, codenamed Blackwell, will be officially unveiled alongside the rest of the RTX 50 series at Nvidia's CES 2025 keynote on January 6th. This next-generation lineup arrives over two years after the RTX 40 series launch. Expect features like Nvidia's DLSS upscaling, ray tracing, and PCIe 5.0 support (on compatible motherboards). The RTX 50 series will replace the RTX 40 series (some models of which, like the RTX 4090D and 4070, have already been discontinued). Competition will be fierce, with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs vying for market share.
Early glimpses of the RTX 5090 have emerged. Inno3D, an Nvidia AIB partner, showcased its iChill X3 RTX 5090, a triple-fan card occupying over three expansion slots. Packaging confirmed the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the hefty 575W power requirement, a significant jump from the RTX 4090's 450W.
The RTX 5090's High Memory Capacity: A Price to Pay
The RTX 5090's impressive specifications come with a premium price tag. While the exact MSRP remains undisclosed, estimates suggest a starting price of $1999 or higher. Nvidia is remaining tight-lipped on pricing until the official announcement.
The entire RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti, will be revealed at Nvidia's CES keynote on January 6th. All cards will use a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be provided.
The future of high-end graphics cards remains to be seen, but the RTX 5090 promises considerable power, albeit at a potentially significant cost.
