Splash Damage Cancels Transformers: Reactivate
After a prolonged and difficult development process, Splash Damage has officially canceled its Transformers: Reactivate project. This decision, announced via Splash Damage's Twitter, may unfortunately lead to staff layoffs.
Initially unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, Transformers: Reactivate was envisioned as a 1-4 player online game pitting Autobots and Decepticons against a new alien threat. While leaks suggested a roster including classic characters like Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, and Soundwave (with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee also hinted at), and even the possibility of Beast Wars characters, the game will not see release.
The announcement thanked the development team for their dedication and Hasbro for their support. Fan reaction has been varied, with some expressing disappointment, while others anticipated the cancellation given the lack of updates since the 2022 trailer.
Splash Damage's focus now shifts to "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game built using Unreal Engine 5, announced in March 2023 and developed in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. Resources will be redirected to this project, but the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate will result in job losses. The Transformers fanbase remains without a new AAA title.
