- Squid Game: Unleashed is set to receive fresh content to celebrate season two of the hit show
- New characters, a new map and challenges are all being included
- You can also gain exclusive rewards by watching episodes from the new series!
With the release of Squid Game: Unleashed just before the holidays, Netflix made the surprising decision to release their battle royale-esque take on the Korean drama free even to non-subscribers. And with new content being added to celebrate season two, they're making an effort to lure those non-users in with exciting rewards earned by watching the show!
But first, what can you expect if you're already playing? Well for a start this new update, starting January 3rd, adds in a map inspired by Mingle, one of the key mini-games showcased in Squid Game season two. You'll also see the debut of the characters Geum-Ja, Yong-Sik and Thanos (the rapper, not the Mad Titan) as playable avatars throughout January.
Both Geum-Ja and Thanos will receive special in-game events on January 3rd and 9th to unlock them. And if you're planning on watching the show you can get additional rewards to boot! Watching episodes of Squid Game season two will net you both in-game Cash and Wild Tokens to use while watching up to seven also unlocks the new Binni Binge-Watcher outfit!
Game onWith that in mind, here's all the specifics to expect this coming month for Squid Game: Unleashed:
- January 3rd: Introduction of the new map, Mingle and Geum-Ja whose Dalgona Mash Up Collection Event runs until the 9th and tasks you with completing Mingle-Inspired mini-games and collecting Dalgona tins.
- January 9th: Thanos arrives, alongside his own recruitment event with Thanos’ Red Light Challenge that tasks you with eliminating players using knives to earn this character; runs until the 14th.
- January 16th: Yong-Sik arrives in-game as the final additional character of this current crop!
It's becoming pretty clear that Squid Game: Unleashed may be a major turning point for Netflix and its ambitions in gaming. Making it freely available to all players was already a bold move, but rewarding those who do subscribe to Netflix while also encouraging them to watch is an even more cunning way to help Squid Game: Unleashed support the actual show.
