Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 Focusing on Quality of Life Improvements
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) has decided to delay its anticipated first in-game event to prioritize vital quality-of-life improvements. On February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games shared a detailed Development Roadmap, outlining the upcoming changes for Civ 7.
The next update, version 1.1.0, is set to launch on March 4, 2025, for PC and consoles, with a separate schedule for Nintendo Switch. Originally, the update was to feature the "Natural Wonder Battle" event, but Firaxis Games announced, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access phase, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, particularly concerning the user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis Games has stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, saying, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming Update 1.1.0 aims to tackle community feedback head-on. While the complete update notes will be available at launch, Firaxis Games has provided a sneak peek into what players can expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for players to explore at no extra cost. The update also promises significant UI enhancements to address player concerns. Additionally, adjustments to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions will improve AI performance in achieving a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these changes, the first part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis Games confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The next major update for Civ 7 is scheduled for March 25, 2025, though this date may change. This update will continue to refine the game’s UI, with Firaxis Games stating, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continue to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, Civ 7 plans to introduce further enhancements and new features, including a "one more turn" option to extend gameplay beyond the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and improvements in multiplayer support.
Firaxis Games added, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
