Rome boasts Italy's largest video game museum, GAMM (Game Museum), now open to the public in Piazza della Repubblica. The brainchild of Marco Accordi Rickards – writer, journalist, professor, and CEO of Vigamus – GAMM reflects Rickards' passion for preserving and celebrating video game history. He describes the museum as a journey blending history, technology, and gameplay exploration, building upon the legacy of Vigamus, a previous Rome-based gaming museum that attracted over two million visitors since 2012.
GAMM occupies 700 square meters across two floors, divided into three captivating thematic areas.
Explore GAMM's Highlights:
- GAMMDOME: An interactive digital playground featuring historical gaming artifacts like consoles and donations, all based on the 4E concept: Experience, Exhibition, Education, and Entertainment.
- Path of Arcadia (PARC): A nostalgic trip back to the golden age of arcade games, showcasing classics from the late 1970s through the 1990s.
- Historical Playground (HIP): A deep dive into game mechanics, design, and structure, offering a behind-the-scenes look at gaming history.
GAMM is open Monday to Thursday from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and Fridays and Saturdays until 11:30 PM. Tickets cost 15 euros. Visit the official GAMM website for more information.
