Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the 2026 DC Universe film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter known for his superhuman strength and immortality, originates from the now-extinct planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and shares the fate of being the last survivor of his world, much like Superman.
Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the former DC Extended Universe (DCEU), will now transition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as Lobo. The actor has expressed a deep connection to the character, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book figure due to their aesthetic similarities.
In a conversation with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans about what to expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He hinted at a brief but impactful role, stating, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It's kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he's pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike's really cool." When asked about the extent of Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified, "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, signaling the start of production for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film, which is slated for release in June 2026, draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story revolves around an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, portrayed by Eve Ridley, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. Other cast members include David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman slated for this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is scheduled for release in September 2026.
