Nintendo's Latest Announcement: A LEGO Game Boy?
Nintendo's latest collaboration with LEGO is a buildable Game Boy, launching October 2025. This follows their successful LEGO NES set, sparking excitement among fans. However, the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) has also fueled speculation about the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2. Many users playfully interpreted the news as a delayed console reveal.
While Nintendo remains tight-lipped about the Switch 2, President Furukawa's May 7, 2024 statement promised a reveal before the end of their fiscal year (March). Further details on the LEGO Game Boy's price point are expected in the coming weeks.
A History of Nintendo and LEGO Collaborations
Beyond the Game Boy and NES LEGO sets, Nintendo and LEGO have previously partnered on sets featuring iconic characters from Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda (TLZ).
A notable example is the May 2024 release of the 2,500-piece "Great Deku Tree 2-in-1" set from The Legend of Zelda. This impressive set, priced at $299.99 USD, incorporates elements from Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild, including Princess Zelda and the Master Sword.
Following closely, a Super Mario World LEGO set debuted two months later, featuring a unique depiction of Mario riding Yoshi. This $129.99 USD set uses a crank mechanism to animate Yoshi's leg movement, showcasing innovative design.
