Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Adds Playable Jar Jar Binks and More!
Aspyr has unveiled a surprising addition to the upcoming re-release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles: the playable character, Jar Jar Binks! A new trailer showcases Jar Jar wielding a large staff in action-packed gameplay.
This isn't the only new addition. Aspyr has already revealed nine other new playable characters, with more on the way, significantly expanding the original game's roster.
The 2000 release of Jedi Power Battles featured beloved characters and locations from Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. This updated version aims to recapture that nostalgic charm while adding fresh content. Alongside features like customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support, the new characters are a major draw. Jar Jar Binks' inclusion is perhaps the most unexpected, but the trailer shows him utilizing his signature chaotic energy and a staff as his weapon.
The trailer highlights Jar Jar's gameplay, demonstrating his unique fighting style. While some fans might have envisioned a Darth Jar Jar-esque red lightsaber wielding character, this version embraces the comedic nature of the character with signature voice lines.
Jar Jar Binks will be playable when Jedi Power Battles launches on January 23rd, but pre-orders are available now.
Newly Revealed Playable Characters:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Rodian
- Flame Droid
- Gungan Guard
- Destroyer Droid
- Ishi Tib

Aspyr's commitment to expanding the playable character list is impressive. The variety is notable, encompassing fan favorites like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, alongside several droid types including the Flame Droid, Destroyer Droid, and Rifle Droid. The addition of Jar Jar Binks isn't even a singular Gungan addition; the Gungan Guard also joins the fray.
With the release date just weeks away, fans can soon experience these new additions firsthand. Aspyr's past work on re-releasing classic games, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offers hope that Jedi Power Battles will be a successful and satisfying update for longtime fans.
