A New Guinness World Record: 20,000 Pokémon TCG Cards Opened in 24 Hours!
The Pokémon Company International shattered a world record, achieving the Guinness World Record for the longest Pokémon TCG card unboxing livestream. Popular online personalities teamed up for a 24-hour marathon, opening an astounding 20,000+ cards!
A Record-Breaking Livestream
On November 26th, 2024, the event celebrated the launch of the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks expansion. The livestream, hosted on Pokémon's Twitch channel, featured influencers like Serebii's Joe Merrick, PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv. Together, they opened over 1,500 booster packs and other Pokémon products.
Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his excitement, stating, "It's been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we're thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title."
The collected cards will be donated to charities, including Barnardo’s in the UK, before the holidays. The Pokémon Company also hinted at further giveaways on participating creators' channels in the coming weeks.
Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks
Released on November 8th, 2024, Scarlet & Violet—Surging Sparks transports players to the Terarium, a key location in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Indigo Disk. This expansion introduces Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, including the defensively powerful Archaludon ex.
Fans can also find iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, and new additions like Alolan Exeggutor ex and Tatsugiri ex. Beautiful illustration rare and special illustration rare cards, featuring Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas, complete the tropical theme. New Tera Pokémon ex, such as Pallossand ex and Flygon ex, add exciting options for TCG decks. The expansion is also available digitally through the Pokémon TCG Live app, offering in-game bonuses for collecting and battling with the new cards.
