A retrospective celebrating the groundbreaking work of the late Will Eisner is currently underway at New York's Philippe Labaune Gallery. This exhibition showcases original artwork from Eisner's iconic creations, including The Spirit and A Contract with God.
The gallery provides a comprehensive look at Eisner's career, spanning from 1941 to 2002. Featured pieces include numerous pages from classic comic strips like The Spirit and New York: The Big City, along with a near-complete presentation of his influential graphic novel, A Contract with God: The Super.

According to gallery owner Philippe Labaune, Eisner's 1940 debut of The Spirit revolutionized comics with its innovative style. His cinematic techniques, including dynamic panel layouts and innovative transitions, redefined comic storytelling. Eisner's use of visual symbolism and unconventional page designs created a more immersive reading experience, setting a new standard for the medium.
The Will Eisner Exhibit opens Thursday, February 13th, with a reception from 6pm to 9pm ET. The exhibition runs through Saturday, March 8th. The Philippe Labaune Gallery is located at 534 West 24th Street in New York City and is open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm ET.
