Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, dreams of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film alongside Keanu Reeves. Read on for more details about this exciting prospect!
A Night City Reunion?
Idris Elba recently expressed his enthusiasm for a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. In an interview with ScreenRant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves share the screen), Elba stated that a live-action Cyberpunk film would be incredible, particularly with their characters together. He described the potential pairing as "Whoa," expressing a desire to make it a reality.
Reeves, of course, portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion.
This idea isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. Variety reported in October 2023 that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is in development, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk live-action adaptation is a viable undertaking.
More Cyberpunk on the Horizon
Beyond a potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. The manga is currently available in several languages, with an English release date yet to be announced. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025. And don't forget the previously announced, yet-to-be-detailed, new Cyberpunk 2077 animated series! CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk universe across various media.
