Fortnite Fans Are Unhappy About Massive UI Change

Summary

  • Epic Games' Fortnite quest UI redesign has received significant backlash from players.
  • The new system uses collapsible blocks and submenus, causing navigation difficulties and frustration.
  • While the addition of new pickaxe options is appreciated, the UI overhaul is widely considered time-consuming and detrimental to gameplay.

Epic Games recently implemented major UI changes in Fortnite, sparking considerable controversy within the community. This followed the conclusion of the Winterfest event, which featured collaborations with celebrities like Shaq, Snoop Dogg, and Mariah Carey and rewarded players with free cosmetics.

Chapter 6 Season 1 of Fortnite has been generally well-received, introducing a new map, revamped movement mechanics, and new game modes like Ballistic, Fortnite OG, and LEGO Fortnite: Brick Life. However, the January 14th update, which included extensive content additions and cosmetic updates, also brought a significant quest UI redesign that proved unpopular. Instead of a simple list, quests are now presented in large, collapsible blocks, creating numerous submenus. While some initially found the new UI visually appealing, many players quickly voiced frustration over its cumbersome navigation.

Fortnite’s New Quest UI Faces Player Backlash

While the new UI offers the advantage of viewing quests for different game modes without switching between them—a previous point of contention—this benefit is largely overshadowed by its impact during matches. Players report that the time spent navigating the new, complex menu system during gameplay puts them at a significant disadvantage, leading to premature eliminations. This issue has been particularly highlighted while completing the new Godzilla quests.

Despite the negative reception to the quest UI, Epic Games' recent addition of Fortnite Festival instruments as pickaxes and back blings has been positively received, providing players with expanded cosmetic options. Overall, while the UI update has generated significant negative feedback, the game's other additions and the positive response to the new pickaxe options suggest that Fortnite remains largely popular, with players anticipating future updates.
