Unleash the Ghoul Within
The latest update for Fallout 76 brings an intriguing twist to the game, allowing players to experience the world as a Ghoul. Announced on Bethesda's website on March 18, Season 20, dubbed "The Ghoul Within," is now live, offering a range of ghoul-related features, new mechanics, and fresh cosmetics to enhance your C.A.M.P.
Players can embark on the journey of Ghoulification through the "Leap of Faith" questline, which introduces them to a new area of the Savage Divide. Here, they'll encounter unique characters who aid in their transformation into a Ghoul. This transformation grants access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, as well as 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks, known as "Gherks."
The Feral ability replaces traditional hunger and thirst mechanics with a Feral meter. Depending on the meter's level, players receive boosts in various categories. However, letting the meter hit 0% leads to significant gameplay changes: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."
The Glow ability lets players consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and causes them to emit a visible glow. It also boosts maximum health, heals existing damage, and enhances the effectiveness of Ghoul-exclusive Perks.
Players have 28 perks to choose from, along with two new legendary perks tailored for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as these mechanics don't apply to their new state.
A Day In The Life of A Ghoul
Navigating the radioactive wasteland as a Ghoul is made easier with the new abilities and perks. However, some factions, like the Brotherhood of Steel, may become hostile towards Ghouls, potentially restricting access to certain questlines.
To counter this, players can utilize disguises provided by a new NPC named Jaye, enabling interaction with content otherwise inaccessible to Ghouls. If the Ghoul lifestyle isn't to your liking, you can revert to being human via the Character Screen. Keep in mind, this is a one-way change, and reverting to a Ghoul requires purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.
Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes
Whether you're a newcomer or a veteran of Appalachia, the Level 50 Character Boost included in Season 20 can help accelerate your journey. For 1500 Atoms, this boost provides various enhancements, allowing immediate access to multiplayer activities like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.
Alongside the boost, the update includes a range of bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as improvements in accessibility, combat mechanics, and weapon damage. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming update on April 29, "The Big Bloom," which is part of their ongoing season schedule.
