GTA 6 May Eventually Come to PC
The future of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC remains unconfirmed, but recent statements from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick suggest a possible eventual release. Dive into the details of GTA 6's development and what the future might hold for PC gamers.
GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest
While GTA 6 has not been officially announced for PC, hints from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick during an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, indicate a potential future release. Zelnick emphasized that while their upcoming game Civilization 7 will launch on both console and PC, other titles in their lineup, including those from Rockstar Games, typically follow a staggered release schedule across different platforms.
He noted, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This pattern is evident in past releases like GTA 5, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC version following in November 2019.
Although no official confirmation has been made for GTA 6 on PC, Zelnick's comments suggest that Take-Two is considering a PC release, aligning with the trend of major titles eventually making their way to the platform. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous launch on PC, but it appears they may need to wait a bit longer.
Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms
Zelnick highlighted the growing significance of the PC market, stating that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. He observed, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game will not only sell well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he explained.
Zelnick added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. Stay updated with the latest on GTA 6 by visiting our dedicated page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Releasing on Switch 2
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed interest in bringing their games to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He mentioned their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and their willingness to support the platform when it aligns with their release strategy.
Zelnick noted a shift in Nintendo's audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already confirmed for the Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
