In an engaging interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon delved into how Mortal Kombat 1 will distinguish between the formidable characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon emphasized the development team's commitment to ensuring that players experience two distinct heroes with unique combat styles, alleviating fans' concerns about potential similarities in their gameplay.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During his conversation with IGN, Boon assured that the MK1 developers are taking a creative approach to differentiate these iconic characters. The team has been given the liberty to explore a variety of ideas, but they are consciously avoiding any overlap in abilities, especially those reminiscent of Superman. Boon stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."
Boon also highlighted how they've drawn inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities. He noted, "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'" This commitment to diversity in gameplay ensures that fans will enjoy a fresh and exciting experience with each character.
