George R.R. Martin recently shared an exciting update from his blog, but it wasn't about the highly anticipated "The Winds of Winter." Instead, he unveiled the cover for the next illustrated edition of "A Song of Ice and Fire" series: "A Feast for Crows." This marks the fourth book in the series to receive this special treatment, featuring stunning artwork by Jeffrey R. McDonald.
"A Feast for Crows: The Illustrated Edition" is scheduled to hit the shelves on November 4, 2025. Fans can preorder this new edition from major retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target, among other top online bookstores.

This announcement is a treat for collectors of the illustrated editions. It has been five years since the last illustrated edition, "A Storm of Swords," was released in November 2020.
In addition to the captivating illustrations, the new edition of "A Feast for Crows" will include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie. Martin's blog mentioned that some of the interior illustrations will be shared later this spring, ahead of the book's release. For fans eager to start or continue collecting, the first three illustrated editions of "A Song of Ice and Fire" are already available.

What About The Winds of Winter?
For those eagerly awaiting "The Winds of Winter," the wait may continue for quite some time. The last update from Martin on this front came in a December 2024 interview, where he expressed concerns about finishing the book in his lifetime. This follows his November 2023 statement that he had already written 1,100 pages.
While the lack of progress on "The Winds of Winter" is disheartening for fans who have waited nearly 14 years, there remains hope that the series will be completed eventually, perhaps by another author. With the fourth illustrated edition now on its way, it seems likely that all five special editions will be completed before "The Winds of Winter" sees the light of day.
