League of Legends Reverses Course on Unpopular Changes
The Return of Hextech Chests
Following significant player feedback, League of Legends (LoL) is reinstating Hextech Chests. In a developer update published on February 27, 2025, and accompanied by a YouTube video, Riot Games outlined upcoming changes.Riot acknowledged that recent updates fell short of player expectations, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust." The return of Hextech Chests was a key response to this feedback. Riot explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Hextech Chests will return in patch 25.05, with players able to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act. Eight chests will be available through the free pass, and two can be earned via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and Further Fan-Driven Adjustments
Riot also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, explaining the need for "more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." The entire Exalted skin line will be delayed, meaning fewer skins than originally planned this year.
Responding to further player feedback, LoL will replace a non-Prestige skin with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about a lack of Mythic Essence in the paid pass and the number of champions per seasonal theme.
Recognizing feedback on champion accessibility, LoL is reducing the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50%, effective with patch 25.05.
Finally, Riot reversed course on reduced Clash frequency, restoring the monthly schedule. March will feature an ARURF Clash event, followed by a regular SR Clash in April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return
Popular features, Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium, are making a comeback this year, scheduled for 25.06 and 25.07 respectively.
Riot concluded, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
This response highlights Riot Games' commitment to incorporating player feedback to enhance the League of Legends experience. League of Legends is available for free on PC. Visit our League of Legends page for the latest news.
