During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we were treated to an in-depth look at the game's exciting new Free Roam mode, shedding light on its multiplayer capabilities and the activities you can engage in while exploring Mario Kart World's expansive environment.
Although we had the chance to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive overview of what Free Roam mode has to offer. This innovative feature allows players to explore freely across a vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous Mario Kart games where race tracks are isolated and accessible only during races, Mario Kart World integrates these tracks into an open-world setting, enabling seamless transitions between tracks and exploration of the surrounding areas. In Free Roam mode, when you're not competing in races, you can embark on a delightful adventure. The world is brimming with hidden collectibles, such as coins and ? panels, though the exact purpose of collecting these items remains a mystery for now. Additionally, P-Switches are scattered throughout the landscape, triggering mini-challenges like collecting blue coins when activated.
Free Roam mode also introduces a Photo Mode, allowing you to capture stunning images of your racers in various poses and from different angles at any time. And the fun doesn't stop there—Free Roam isn't limited to solo play. You and your friends can explore together, snap photos, tackle challenges, or simply enjoy each other's company. This mode supports up to four players on the same system through split-screen, or up to eight players via local wireless play, with two players per system.
Today's Mario Kart World Direct also unveiled a wealth of other exciting features, including new characters, courses, and game modes. To get all the details on these announcements, be sure to check out the full coverage right here.
