Marvel Comics is set to reboot its Captain America monthly series with a fresh creative team and a captivating new storyline. This narrative will delve into Steve Rogers' early experiences after his revival from suspended animation, culminating in his very first encounter with Doctor Doom.
As announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, the series will be penned by Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) and illustrated by Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with colors by Frank D'Armata. This team previously collaborated on Marvel's 2017 2-in-One.

The story commences shortly after Steve's rediscovery and reintegration into the contemporary Marvel Universe. His initial mission, following his re-enlistment in the US Army, involves a collaboration with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate the recently Doctor Doom-conquered Latveria. While the series will eventually transition to present-day events, the initial arc's impact will resonate throughout Zdarsky and Schiti's narrative.
Zdarsky stated, "Being a lifelong Captain America fan, writing the seasoned, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight was a privilege, but tackling the main Captain America title is truly a dream come true! We're exploring Cap's early modern era adventures with a surprising twist! I'm thrilled to share this, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible artwork."
He continued, "My approach mirrors my Daredevil run, focusing on Cap's inner thoughts, offering a grounded, human perspective on his journey in this new world. Steve Rogers embodies the best of humanity, and I aim to reflect that on every page."
Schiti shared, "Captain America is one of my all-time favorites. Reuniting with Chip and Frank after the fantastic Marvel 2-In-One experience is amazing. We're crafting a story that expertly blends heart, action, and entertainment. Surprisingly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than solely on Captain America."
Schiti added, "Chip's script is incredibly clever and engaging. Readers will connect deeply with Steve's emotional journey. He's a man who embodies truth, justice, and freedom. He fought Nazism, 'died,' and returned to fight again. That's immense pressure, especially considering he's only in his late twenties during the era we're exploring!"
Captain America #1 will debut on July 2, 2025.
