The widely popular hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has been making waves on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has been clear that the game will not be coming to the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. The question on everyone's mind is whether the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 might change that.
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a Switch 2 release. The news is promising for Switch enthusiasts. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, though specifics on its capabilities are still under wraps. It's expected to be a more powerful version of the current Switch, with rumors suggesting it might feature a mouse-like controller functionality. This could potentially enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it more akin to PC gaming, though the exact implementation remains to be seen.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a set release date yet, a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which might shed more light on the console. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is already available on other platforms, and it has received high praise. In our 8/10 review, we noted that "it may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
