Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, despite receiving mixed reviews. This article delves into the game's performance on PC and the issues it currently faces.
Monster Hunter Wilds Faced Numerous Issues At Launch
Monster Hunter Wilds Received Mixed Reviews on Steam
Despite garnering mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has attracted over 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds reached an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players at the time of writing. This figure surpasses the records of its predecessors; MH World peaked at 334,684 players, while MH Rise reached 231,360. However, MH Wilds currently holds a "Mixed" review rating on its Steam page, with 57% of the 54,669 reviews being positive. Many negative reviews cite poor PC optimization and performance issues as major concerns.
Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues
In response to the negative feedback regarding MH Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has taken steps to address these issues. Monster Hunter’s official support account, Monster Hunter Status, issued a statement on Twitter (X) on February 28, 2025, offering solutions to the problems players are facing. The post directed users to MH Wilds’ support website, which provides answers to common concerns. Capcom suggests updating video/graphics drivers, checking for the latest Windows updates, and performing a clean installation of the video driver set, among other fixes. If issues persist, Capcom advises, "Please also try the troubleshooting steps on the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread posted on the Steam community page as they contain more detailed and additional steps that may help resolve your issue."
Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress
A critical game-breaking bug is currently preventing story progression for some players. A vital NPC fails to appear at the expected location, halting progress during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, stating that the team is actively working on a fix. Additionally, there have been issues with the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite meeting the required criteria, as well as problems accessing the Smithy. The developers have responded with hotfixes and updates across different consoles and platforms to address these issues.
Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions
MH Wilds requires microtransactions for players to change their characters’ appearance and their Palicos. The game offers the Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack, allowing players to redo their character creation process three times for $6.00, available on all digital storefronts. Players can modify their hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing, but any further changes require purchasing this voucher. Similarly, editing a Palico requires a separate voucher pack. For those looking to edit both their character and Palico, a $10 voucher allows three edits for each. However, Capcom is offering a single character edit voucher for free. These microtransactions were not part of the MH Wilds testing period but were announced by Capcom to be included in the final game.
