Player First Games announced the impending closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, concluding on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the shutdown in a blog post.
Online play will cease on May 30th, but offline access to earned and purchased content will remain available through local and training modes. The developers expressed gratitude to the MultiVersus community in a heartfelt message.

Real-money transactions have ended, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until the May 30th deadline. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.
This closure follows reports of MultiVersus' underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million total for the games sector. This financial setback coincided with Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad's departure.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels stated in November.
Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will include new content, notably the addition of Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar reward) and Aquaman (battle pass unlock) as playable characters. Both arrive next week.
