Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and confirms several circulating rumors.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the Switch 2's larger size, approaching the dimensions of Valve's Steam Deck. The mockup showcased magnetic Joy-Con controllers, featuring SL and SR buttons with a magnetic attachment mechanism. Release buttons on each Joy-Con disengage the magnetic hold. Despite the change from sliding rails to magnets, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con attachment during gameplay.
Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's "mounting channel," which incorporates optical sensors. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing similar sensors.
While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 remains slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible for use. The purpose of a mysterious "C" button and an additional USB-C port remains unknown.
