The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning has ignited speculation about a potentially exciting feature: Joy-Con mouse functionality. A scene in the reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to what appear to be flat-bottomed connectors. These then glide across the surface, mimicking mouse movement on a mousepad. A closer look even reveals a possible slider pad on one connector, further fueling this theory.
Pre-reveal rumors hinted at this possibility, suggesting a sensor inside the Joy-Cons similar to those found in computer mice. However, Nintendo remains officially silent on this feature and its implications. Fans envision uses ranging from enhancing traditional PC games like Civilization to entirely new, innovative applications within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain open.
While much about potential mouse support (and that mysterious new Joy-Con button) remains unknown, we do have some confirmed details. The console is officially named the Nintendo Switch 2, slated for a 2025 release, and will feature a new Mario Kart title. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is confirmed, and further software announcements are promised in an April Direct. Stay tuned for more Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
