Nintendo has unveiled the Switch 2 Welcome Tour, an innovative game designed to introduce players to the features of the new Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike a traditional pack-in title, this game will be available as a separate, paid digital download. Highlighted during the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour serves as a "virtual exhibition" of the new hardware. According to Nintendo, players will engage with tech demos, minigames, and various interactive elements to thoroughly explore the capabilities of the system.
The Direct showcased a player avatar navigating through an oversized representation of the Switch 2, learning about its features and facts in a museum-like setting. The game includes engaging minigames such as Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo, offering both education and entertainment.
Nintendo confirmed via a live stream and press release that the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will be available for purchase on the Nintendo eShop starting on the Switch 2's launch day. Despite its innovative approach, the decision to make this a paid digital-only game rather than a console pack-in has sparked curiosity and discussion among fans. As of now, no specific price has been announced for the Switch 2 Welcome Tour.
In addition to the Welcome Tour, the Switch 2 will launch with a robust lineup including titles like Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. With these offerings, the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will have to compete for consumer spending on launch day.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, with a starting price of $449.99 USD, or $499.99 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World.
