Nintendo’s Latest Announcement
Not a Switch 2, but Alarmo
Nintendo's interactive alarm clock, Alarmo, is gearing up for a broader release in March 2025, as shared via their official Twitter (X) account. In just a couple of months, Alarmo will be accessible to a wider audience, hitting the shelves of major retailers like Target, Walmart, GameStop, and other Nintendo-approved outlets worldwide.
This release marks a significant change, as the previous requirement for a Nintendo Online membership will be removed, making Alarmo available to everyone. Priced at $99.99 USD, the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo promises to be a must-have for fans.
While fans are thrilled about this development, the conversation continues to buzz around the anticipated announcement of the Switch 2. Despite the excitement, Nintendo remains silent on any details about their next console.
Nintendo Alarmo Sold Out A Day After its Announcement
The demand for Alarmo was immediate and overwhelming. Just one day after its announcement on October 9, 2024, Nintendo reported that the device was sold out. In Japan, due to the high volume of orders, sales were paused on the My Nintendo Store, and a lottery system was introduced to manage distribution to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
"We have received an unprecedented number of orders for the Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo, released on October 9th. As a result, we've had to suspend sales on the My Nintendo Store. We're transitioning to a lottery sale for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and are working to increase production to meet demand. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
In New York City, Alarmo also sold out on the same day, with stores promising updates on restocking.
Nintendo Alarmo Features
Launched in 2024, Alarmo is not just any alarm clock. It integrates sound effects from beloved Nintendo games such as Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, and more. With 42 scenes to choose from, and plans for future updates including Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Alarmo brings your favorite game worlds to your bedside.
When you select a scene, a character from that game appears on the clock's screen, waiting patiently. When the alarm sounds, the character awakens, accompanied by a gentle sound. After a few moments, a visitor arrives, and you can quiet the alarm by waving your hand or moving your body, thanks to the built-in motion sensor. If you linger too long in bed, a more insistent visitor appears, and the sound escalates until you get up.
Beyond its alarm function, Alarmo enhances your sleep environment with hourly chimes and Sleep Sounds tailored to your chosen scene. It also monitors your sleep patterns, tracking your time in bed and movement during sleep.
For shared sleeping spaces, Nintendo recommends using Button Mode to prevent accidental activations. Initially requiring a Nintendo Online membership, this restriction will be lifted with the expanded release in March 2025, making Alarmo accessible to all.
