Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. This article explores the reasons behind this decision and looks ahead to the game's future.

Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Immediate Competitive Plans

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

In a recent interview with VGC (February 25, 2025), Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they continually evaluate potential additions to their competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the roster. He playfully mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example of a title outside the competitive sphere, but emphasized that there are no current plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket’s inclusion.

Why the Wait? Early Stages and Balancing Concerns

While no official reasons have been given, several fan theories exist. The game is still relatively new, having launched only four months prior (October 2024) and released just two sets. Although the app features competitive elements, ongoing balance issues have prompted player requests for adjustments. Furthermore, Pokémon TCG Pocket’s simplified gameplay, designed for accessibility, may not align perfectly with the demands of a competitive environment.

The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, featuring events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all culminating in the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.
