Announcing Ananta: The Formerly Known as Project Mugen Open-World RPG
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? The game has officially been rebranded as Ananta.
First unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the official trailer:
The Name Change Mystery
While developers haven't commented on the reason for the name change, Ananta means "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of the original title, Mugen. The Chinese title further supports this thematic consistency.
The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but universally relieved the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's Neverness to Everness, with some favoring the latter's gameplay reveal, while others find Ananta's visuals more compelling. The new trailer, however, lacks any actual gameplay footage.
A Curious Turn of Events
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the title change. This unexpected move has left many players puzzled.
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator battling paranormal threats. The cast includes characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
