Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location. Keeping the undead hordes at bay necessitates robust defenses, and barricading windows is a crucial first step. This guide details how to effectively board up your windows and enhance your base's security.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To create a basic barricade, gather the necessary materials: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you have these items, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can support up to four planks for increased protection.
Locating these materials is relatively straightforward. Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar locations. Wooden planks are commonly found on construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture like shelves and chairs. Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items as needed.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry attempts. The more planks you install, the more time it takes for the undead to breach the defenses. To remove planks, right-click the barricade and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
While larger furniture items might seem like an effective barrier, they unfortunately won't work. Characters and zombies will pass right through them. However, knowing how to move furniture remains a valuable skill for interior design purposes.
