When it comes to introducing younger audiences to high-class artwork, it can often seem like an impossible task. But what better way to do so than by gamifying it and making things fun? This is exactly what the newly released all-ages point-and-click adventure, The Great Sneeze, seeks to achieve with its engaging puzzles and casual gameplay.
Set inside a high-class art gallery, The Great Sneeze follows a trip to the museum where students Kaspar, David, and Friederike arrive to view the paintings of the renowned artist Caspar David Friedrich. However, as they assist Mr. Dietzke in preparing for the grand opening, a colossal sneeze sends everything into disarray.
It's up to these three characters, guided by you, to restore order before the exhibition opens and ensure a seamless event. To accomplish this, players must explore the various paintings and solve quick, bite-sized puzzles to return everything to its rightful place.
Do touch the artworkIf you're getting flashbacks to the (excellent) Please, Touch the Artwork, you're not alone. The Great Sneeze follows a similar setup by celebrating the works of a famous artist—singular in this case—and encouraging players to engage with the artwork interactively.
As Catherine points out in her review, The Great Sneeze, available now on iOS and Android, is an all-ages release but certainly not just "for kids." It's far from a slog, offering plenty of intriguing and fun minigames as players work to fix the gallery.
