Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

Author : Zachary Mar 17,2025

Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing solely on PlayStation 5 titles. This shift was announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games. The announcement stated that PS4 games will only be offered occasionally in the future for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and the Game Catalog. This change doesn't affect games already claimed by subscribers, and currently available Games Catalog titles remain playable until their removal from the catalog during the usual monthly refresh. Sony assures subscribers that PlayStation Plus will continue to evolve, emphasizing benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company's focus on PS5 is driven by the observation that many players are now primarily using PS5 consoles and engaging with PS5 titles.

The future of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 titles) remains unannounced. Further details are expected closer to the implementation date.
