Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Gets the Hollywood Treatment at CES 2025
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions revealed at CES 2025 that they are adapting the critically acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 into a feature film. The announcement, made by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash, confirmed the project is officially in development. While plot details remain under wraps, audiences can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences brought to life on the big screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, is a highly successful cooperative shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the release of the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
This exciting news follows the earlier announcement of a Horizon Zero Dawn film adaptation, a collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted movie). Qizilbash offered a brief preview of the Horizon Zero Dawn project, stating, "We are in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure viewers that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic presentation."
