The much-anticipated Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City is set to premiere on May 4, 2025, as revealed exclusively at IGN Fan Fest 2025. During the event's second day, IGN offered fans a sneak peek with an exclusive clip and an insightful interview featuring Scott Gimple, the chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe, alongside stars Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, portraying Negan.
Lauren Cohan delved into Maggie's mental state as Season 2 kicks off, sharing, "Sadly not everything is quite as rosy as it could be or seems or one would hope." She highlighted the ongoing struggles within Maggie's family life, including the challenges of raising her teenage son and caring for Ginny, a teenage girl, amidst the backdrop of an apocalyptic world. "That's where we find ourselves before another big bad thing happens," she added, setting the stage for the upcoming season's intense dynamics.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussed Negan's journey, noting how the character has transitioned from being widely despised to a fan-favorite. "We find Negan very much under the thumb of The Dama and The Croat, and on some ground he’s not real familiar with," he explained. Morgan teased Negan's ongoing struggle and schemes to regain control, despite starting the season in a challenging position. He also shared his fondness for Negan's iconic weapon, Lucille, the baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, humorously noting, "The Lucille of it all, what can I say? I love that thing! But I as an actor, that's the only prop I've ever had my whole life I enjoy carrying around with me. It brought back very fond memories for me. Not for Lauren!"
Scott Gimple provided insights into the season's overarching conflict, stating, "There is no single big bad. There’s a lot of shifting as far as the power ranking for this season. It isn’t all antagonistic. It’s a little more complex like that. It’s a little more political. And then we get kinda physical." This suggests a multifaceted narrative filled with political intrigue and physical confrontations.
IGN also treated fans to the opening minutes of the first episode of Season 2, offering a tantalizing glimpse into what's to come. The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 is slated to premiere on AMC on May 4, 2025. Be sure to stay tuned for all the latest updates from IGN Fan Fest 2025.
