To achieve the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing specific tasks, such as saving Sam, is crucial. Understanding where to find Sam and how to rescue him can significantly impact your journey toward the perfect conclusion.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you near the end of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. Your chance to save him comes during the main quest "Reckoning." Infiltrating the camp requires strategy; you can choose stealth or opt for a more direct approach.
To move freely within the camp without raising suspicion, you'll need a guard's outfit. One method is to kill a guard, steal his outfit, and hide the body. Alternatively, you might find one by looting chests scattered around the camp. Once equipped, you can explore without drawing attention.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escape with him. He'll inform you about von Aulitz, who is also in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to facilitate his escape. Sam can wait safely while you complete these tasks, making this sequence more manageable, especially since you'll need to carry him to the horse.
Von Aulitz is found in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to enter his quarters without issue. Upon finding him, you'll see that he's already dying. He requests a dignified death, which is the most honorable option. Alternatively, you can kill him brutally or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die actually contributes to the best ending.
Your final steps involve retrieving Sam and securing a horse. Sam remains in the barn where you left him. If questioned by a guard about moving him, simply state that you're handling a body, which should dispel any suspicion. Exit the camp through the gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter until you reach the stables.
