Get ready, Star Wars fans! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, picking up after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This new series will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they work to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, writer of the acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, takes the helm, crafting a story illustrated by Star Wars veteran Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron). Noto and Leinil Yu will provide the stunning cover art for the first issue.

Segura and Noto's Star Wars is set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the final major battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. The New Republic strives to become the galaxy's new governing power, but faces significant challenges as pirates, thieves, and other nefarious elements exploit the power vacuum.
“Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into a new, uncharted era, introducing fresh galactic threats, adversaries, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront,” Segura explained to StarWars.com. “These stories will be brimming with action and the character-driven moments Star Wars fans expect, offering new twists on the familiar galaxy, ensuring accessibility for new readers. We're incredibly excited!”
“Alex is a phenomenal writer, crafting compelling storylines and new characters for this series, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life!” Noto added. “It’s been exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, free from existing film or TV interpretations. I get to create fresh looks for them, while still referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of that timeline.”
Star Wars #1 will launch on May 7, 2025, coinciding with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic venture. In February, they'll release Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
