Hashino, when discussing the studio's future plans, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding Metaphor: ReFantazio's future as a franchise, Hashino confirmed there are no immediate plans for a sequel. His focus remains on completing the current project, a game initially conceived as the third major JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming for it to become Atlus' flagship title.
While a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel is currently off the table, the team is already working on their next project. An anime adaptation, however, is a possibility. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved remarkable success, setting a new record for Atlus' concurrent player count at its launch, exceeding 85,961 players. This surpasses the concurrent player counts of Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
