Monster Hunter Wilds Day One Patch: File Size Revealed

The eagerly awaited Monster Hunter Wilds has just launched its day-one patch, which comes with a hefty file size of 18GB. This substantial update was initially rolled out on the PlayStation 5, with Capcom expected to extend it to other platforms soon. While the patch notes are still under wraps, the community is buzzing with speculation about what this update might entail.

Many fans are hopeful that the day-one patch will introduce high-resolution textures to the game. Review copies circulated among critics reportedly lacked these high-fidelity textures, which are essential for the game's stunning visual appeal. The large file size of the update could be attributed to these textures, as they typically demand considerable storage space.

Given that the patch debuted on the PlayStation 5, there's a strong possibility it includes enhancements for the PS5 Pro. Capcom has already confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will be optimized for the PS5 Pro at launch, and incorporating these enhancements in the day-one patch could significantly boost gameplay performance for console users.

Another anticipated feature of this update is bug fixes. Despite Capcom's meticulous efforts in refining the game, there remain several bugs that need addressing. Including these fixes in the initial patch is a common practice to ensure a smoother gaming experience right from the start.

Although labeled as a day-one patch, pre-order customers can download the update before the official release date. Players with slower internet connections are advised to install the patch before February 28 to guarantee a seamless first playthrough.

It's worth noting that this day-one patch is not expected to introduce new content. The patch version 1.000.020, despite its size, should be viewed as a minor update focused primarily on enhancing gameplay and resolving bugs.

For those eager for new content, Monster Hunter Wilds has planned post-launch DLCs. Three paid DLC packs are available for purchase, while two free content updates are also on the horizon. The first free DLC, set to release in the spring, will feature Mizutsune and new event quests. Further content, including additional monsters and missions, is expected to arrive in the summer.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch on PC and consoles on February 28.
