Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks
Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official Nintendo materials, citing their absence from this year's CES event. While this statement seems self-evident, it's noteworthy for being one of the few times Nintendo has publicly addressed product leaks.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. One prominent leak involved accessory manufacturer Genki, who displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025. Pictures of this replica quickly spread across social media.
Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply stated that the Genki replica was "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby clarifying that any Switch 2 imagery from the show lacks official endorsement.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is an additional button, shaped like the capture button, located below the right Joy-Con's home button and labeled "C." Its function remains unknown.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai offered additional unconfirmed details, suggesting magnetic Joy-Con attachment and mouse-like controller functionality – claims previously echoed by other sources.
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. Retail availability isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
