Capcom is optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for improved performance and reduced GPU requirements before launch. This follows feedback from the game's first open beta, which revealed performance issues on PC.
Lowering the GPU Barrier
A recent announcement on the German Monster Hunter Twitter (X) account highlighted performance improvements, particularly in the PS5's Prioritize Framerate mode. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, focusing on lowering the recommended GPU requirements. Currently, the minimum specs include an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Capcom aims to make the game playable on lower-end hardware, expanding accessibility. A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess system compatibility.
Addressing Beta Concerns
The initial open beta test (October/November 2024) revealed significant performance problems, including low-poly models and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. Capcom acknowledged these issues, stating that improvements have been made since the beta, specifically addressing afterimage noise.
A second open beta test (February 7-10 & 14-17, 2025) for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam is scheduled, featuring new monsters (Gypceros and an unannounced creature). Whether these recent performance enhancements will be included in the second beta remains to be seen.
The ongoing optimization efforts suggest that Monster Hunter Wilds will launch in a significantly improved state, potentially addressing the concerns raised during the first beta test. The planned reduction in GPU requirements is a positive step towards broader player accessibility.
