Firaxis Games announces a virtual reality edition of the recently released Civilization VII.
Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR, the first VR entry in the long-running strategy series, is slated for a Spring 2025 release, exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets.
2K Games, the publisher, revealed that PlaySide Studios—the team behind VR titles like The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds—developed Civilization VII - VR.

Here's the official description:
Civilization VII - VR brings the Civilization world to life as never before. The game unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom out for a strategic overview or zoom in for detailed views of units and buildings, mimicking a tabletop experience. Players will interact directly with iconic world leaders around the Command Table, observing their reactions to alliances and declarations of war throughout history.
Offering both immersive VR and mixed reality modes, players can seamlessly switch between them. VR transports players to an ornate museum overlooking a leader-specific vista; mixed reality adapts the Command Table to the player's physical space. Detailed dioramas showcasing gameplay achievements are viewable in The Archives, a museum room accessible in both VR and mixed reality. Beyond single-player, Civilization VII - VR supports online multiplayer for up to four Meta Quest 3 and 3S players.
The PC and console versions of Firaxis' 4X strategy game are currently available to early access purchasers. Steam user reviews have highlighted concerns regarding the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features.
Firaxis has addressed this feedback, promising UI improvements, the addition of team-based cooperative multiplayer, a broader range of map types, and other enhancements.
In an interview with IGN preceding the release of third-quarter financial results, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged negative player and press reviews but expressed confidence that the "legacy Civ audience" would warm to the game with continued play, describing its early performance as "very encouraging."
