Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates
Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options
Phantom Blade Zero is set to offer four distinct difficulty settings: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This feature sets it apart from Soulslike games, which typically maintain a high difficulty level without adjustments. The game drew attention during the PlayStation Showcase 2023 for its aesthetic and combat style reminiscent of Soulslike titles. However, Game Director Soulframe has clarified via an official tweet post-Summer Game Fest 2024 that Phantom Blade Zero is not meant to be another Soulslike. Instead, the focus is on delivering "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."
While the game does draw inspiration from Soulslike titles with its multi-layered maps and exploration elements, Soulframe emphasizes that these similarities are superficial. He likens the gameplay experience to "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending intense hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.
Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More
Phantom Blade Zero promises a deep and engaging gameplay experience, featuring a selection of over 30 primary weapons and 20 secondary weapons, each offering unique effects and combat styles. Players can expect a main story playthrough lasting 20-30 hours, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content to explore.
Boss encounters will be structured in at least two phases, with the innovative feature of resuming from the second phase upon death, saving players from repeating the initial stage. The game introduces a "Li Wulin" mode, where players can challenge previously defeated bosses and unlock new, hidden bosses.
Additionally, a mechanic influencing the game's ending has been mentioned, though details on its impact and the number of potential endings remain undisclosed.
