Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and DLC Potential
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the game's PC release, addressing player interest in potential DLC and the modding community. Read on for details.
DLC: A Matter of Player Demand
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints prioritized completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated, "We did have the desire to add an episodic story as a new DLC...However, given the limited amount of resources, working on and finishing the final game is our highest priority." However, he left the door open: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." The future of DLC hinges on significant player demand.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
The PC release will undoubtedly attract modders. While official mod support isn't included, Hamaguchi expressed respect for the modding community's creativity, requesting only that mods remain "not offensive or inappropriate." This reflects the understanding that while mods enhance gaming experiences (sometimes dramatically, as seen with mods evolving into standalone games like Counter-Strike), the potential for inappropriate content needs to be addressed.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC version boasts graphical improvements, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous criticisms of the PS5 version's "uncanny valley" effect on character faces. Higher-end PCs will benefit from superior 3D models and textures. However, porting the numerous mini-games presented unique challenges, requiring extensive work on key configuration settings.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. For more information on the game itself, check out our other articles.
